Maximizing Benefits for Employees During Hour Reduction: A Guide

Do you have an employee that needs to have their hours reduced? Are you nervous about how to do so while paying attention to pay and benefit changes?

One resource is to make sure to check in with your benefits broker, they will know the ins and outs of your benefits package as each package is different. Be sure to also have clear classifications, in your company handbook, for your employees to know what their role entails (full-time, part-time, regular, temporary, etc.). As The Society for HR Management (SHRM) says “It boils down to how the employer defines the classifications and how they are used in the eligibility requirements of each plan.”

Does The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) apply? What about The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act? A combination of internal policy and HR law will be the winning combination to make sure any change in benefits is compliant. If you need any help in making these classifications clear or approach a potential benefit change, let us know!
