Who We Are?
Montana is where I call home and has been since I moved here in July of 1999. Passionate about all the outdoor adventures Montana has to offer, I decided to stay and find a career I was equally passionate about.
I began my career in Human Resources working with Denise Tuohy in 2005, while employed by the Yellowstone Club. I began working in the HR and Payroll Department which was a fast-pace, and evolving department. With seasonal employees keeping the constant flow of paperwork a necessity, I was challenged to continually find better ways of getting procedures refined and streamlined. I began consulting with small businesses in August 2013, following my entrepreneur dream and making it a reality!
I have gained experience in all the different fields of HR & Payroll which include:
Recruitment | Screening | Selection | On-Boarding | Orientations | New Hire Paperwork |
Employee Handbooks | Policies | Procedures | Manuals |
Coaching | Mentoring | Performance Improvement Plans | Promotions |
Job Descriptions | Job Performance Evaluations | Annual & Seasonal Reviews |
Progressive Discipline | Investigations | Grievances | Conflict Resolution | Separations |
Professional Development – employees, supervisors, managers, directors, executives |
Benefits | Payroll | Time & Attendance | Paid Time Off | Deductions | Employment Taxes |
Worker’s Compensation reporting | OSHA logs & Compliance | Annual Audits |
Human Resource Employment & Payroll Law Knowledge
I Grew up in Alaska on family homestead where my love of the outdoors started. When I’m not spending time with my family you can find me riding my horse.
I’ve worked in insurance and accounting and most recently ran a framing company with my husband in Washington with four crews. There I developed my business acumen skills and passion for working with employees, processing payroll, tax filing and creating HR processes & procedures.
I’m excited to be part of this growing company and helping businesses with their employees.
I grew up in Berkeley, California but spent my summers in Bozeman from an early age. My parents lived in Bozeman for 10 years and while they moved back to California to raise my sister and I, the annual trip to Bozeman was always a highlight. Many years ago I made the move to Bozeman permanent and have loved being here with my husband and dogs ever since. When I am not working, you can find me doing ceramics, hiking outside while searching for wildlife or trying out a new pie recipe. The possibilities for pie are endless!
I have worked in various forms of customer service, team management and have been the informal version of HR for many small businesses in the Gallatin Valley, so I know how important it is to have set systems in place and have a sense of harmony in the workplace. I am so excited to help create that for other businesses through my role at TogetHR Consulting!
As John Steinbeck said, “I’m in love with Montana, for other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection. But with Montana, it is love…” and those are my sentiments, exactly! My career in Human Resources began about 20 years ago in Gardiner, Montana (while working for the concessionaire in Yellowstone National Park) and, as most good things do, it has come full circle, right back home to Montana. Having a career in Human Resources has enabled me to travel the world, and to live in some absolutely amazing places, from the left coast to the right coast and places in-between. I have worked primarily in the hospitality industry with a few others thrown in for fun.
My husband and fur babies in tow, we left coastal Virginia in September and headed back to the mountains! I am so excited to be back here and to be able to do the things I love- hike, walk, camp, ski and, mostly, I am excited to be close to our daughter, who lives in Bozeman!
I am passionate about HR and so excited to join the like-minded TogetHR Consulting Team. I am thrilled to join them on their journey of serving the business community and continued success in this crazy HR/Payroll World.
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago where I lived for 18 years. As a teenager, my family was able to take my brother and I on ski trips out west to Durango, CO, this is when I realized I needed to be in the mountains. To quote John Muir, “The mountains are calling, I must go.” This was my immediate feeling seeing the jagged San Juan Peaks in Southwestern Colorado on my first trip.
I graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO with a degree in Accounting & Finance. Continuing to call this beautiful piece of heaven home for another seven years, before moving to Big Sky, MT, which had a place in my heart after my first trip there while in college.
Somewhere along the way I decided to grow up enough to take a payroll job at Big Sky Resort. While moving up in the accounting department with the resort, TogetHR Consulting offered me part time employment, allowing me to extend my payroll/HR knowledge and utilize my degree. Before long I knew that Kari’s goals and ideals, both in business and personal life, aligned with my own so perfectly that this was a perfect match.
My skills include in several fields such as:
QuickBooks’s Online & Bookkeeping | Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable | Invoicing | Benefits | Payroll | Deductions | Unemployment | Workers Compensation Reporting | On-boarding | Employment Separations | Time & Attendance | Employment Taxes | Paid Time Off Administration
